A letter from Executive Director Bryan Schroeder
Dear Giving Kitchen Community,
As we close out our most successful, most impactful, and most assured year in our ten-year history, urgency best describes our approach, our care, and our need.
Urgent Approach
Giving Kitchen has served more people in the first 11 months of 2022 than we served during our first six years combined. We’re operating at a capacity 350% greater than in December 2019. We’ve shortened the average duration of a financial assistance case from 45 days to 14, with many food service workers receiving support within 24 hours of asking for help to prevent an eviction. Your monetary gift will continue this work.
Urgent Care
There is never a good time for food service workers to be sick or injured, but it’s especially challenging during the holidays. Without desk jobs or remote work, being sick or injured means there is no income for food, rent, or utilities at a time of year when money is already tight. About 40% of Giving Kitchen clients have children at home, which means our support is providing urgent care to families in need. Join us in supporting the food service community with compassion and care.
Urgent Need
It's never been more urgent to rally behind the food service community that serves us. Of the 11,000 people we’ve helped since inception, 25% have been in 2022. Giving Kitchen has provided over 200% more financial aid in 2022 when compared to 2020 — the year when it felt like the whole world was paying attention to Giving Kitchen.
We have surpassed two million dollars in aid, and expect to provide over three million in 2023.There has never been a more urgent time for Giving Kitchen. There has never been a more urgent reason to give. Please consider a gift to Giving Kitchen today.
While you read this, there are people getting ready for work who will need your help over the next month. There are children with visions of stockings over the fireplace, or dreidels ready to spin; Children getting ready for the holidays who are counting on you to save the season.
This December, give the gift of stability for a hard-working food service worker and their family: a roof over their head and the peace of mind to enjoy this magical time of year.
With gratitude,
Bryan Schroeder
