Welcome … to Red Beard Island
Kevin Gillespie leads an all-star team of chefs, mixologists, artists, naturalists and musicians to Ossabaw Island.
April 26-28, 2024
Save your pirate jokes … this is an unparalleled weekend of food, cocktails, music, history and nature on Ossabaw Island hosted by Giving Kitchen and Kevin Gillespie - the award winning celebrity chef and driving force behind Red Beard Restaurants (Gunshow, Revival and Ole Reliable).
Food and drink:
Kevin will be joined by an all-star team of chefs excited to serve elevated, fresh, and locally sourced / foraged food: Terry Koval from The Deer and The Dove, Todd Mussman from Muss & Turner’s, Mike and Shyretha Sheats from The Plate Sale, Chris Hathcock from Husk and Sam Herndon, Head of Culinary for Hugh Acheson.
Beverage service on Ossabaw includes craft beer pairings from Seth Herman of Bearded Iris, guided whisky tastings hosted by Charlie Nelson from Nelson’s Greenbrier Distillery, and wine pairings from Jeremy Carter of Tarpon Cellars.
Art, nature and music:
Offering insight into history and the artistic mission of the Ossabaw Island Foundation, Giving Kitchen is honored to welcome award winning husband and wife duo author Janisse Ray (Ecology of a Cracker Childhood) and artist Raven Waters. Janisse and Raven will lead a discussion of coastal Georgia’s ecology, culture and it’s impact on their creative expression. Guests will be able to take home an island portrait from Raven painted over the weekend on Ossabaw.
Our naturalist guide for the weekend: Georgia’s greatest living naturalist and former TV host of Natural South, Cathy Sakas.
Musician Tedo Stone who will play acoustic and unplugged inside the historic Torrey-West family Mansion.
About the weekend:
Food and beverage pairings will highlight the history and culture of Georgia’s coast; from historic rum punches of 1800s Savannah to the historic foodway cultures of Ossabaw Island - including a special presentation of Geechee inspired food from The Plate Sale. Located just south of Savannah, accessible only by private boat, Ossabaw Island is beautiful beyond description and available to visit only by invitation (GK will arrange boat transportation to the island.)
8 guests stay in the Boarding House: a meticulously restored historic house with four private bedrooms, an amazing kitchen, and a front porch that looks over the island.
Enjoy picture-perfect sunrises and island tours, explore historic ruins, or sit a spell on rocking-chair front porches with marsh views for miles.
Trip begins in the early afternoon on April 26th and wraps up in the morning of April 28th.
Last but not least, your hosts for the weekend - Giving Kitchen’s Jen Hidinger-Kendrick and Bryan Schroeder
